If there's one thing I just absolutely can not get enough of its texture! I love it - it's my obsession! The way it looks, it feels, and how lighting can change its appearance. I'm one of those people that has to touch things - even if someone happens to be wearing it! Lol
When it comes to decorating and styling, texture is my go-to right after splashes of color! Texture can really soften a display or give a space an edge. It's absolutely necessary when working with layering or in monochromatic color schemes.
I create what I like to call "families" when styling with texture (and color, too!). If you take a look at this picture of my bedroom below - what do you see? You may notice the woven goat and the tray on the bed share similar textures, as well as coloring. The woven nightstand, mountains in the vintage painting, and hanging planter are another texture/color family, too!
I also like to take advantage of playing off of existing textures and surfaces such as this brick wall in my backyard. Instead of hiding it or considering it an eye sore, I decided that I really do love the color and the urban feel it has. So I lovingly embraced the brick. I added in the exact opposite textures (softness) and contrasting color (white).
How amazing is the color and fluff factor on this throw!?! I'm so madly in love with it! It was the perfect touch for this space all thanks to the creativity and talent of Amy Halberg, the maker at The Abby House. Please check out her Etsy shop and Instagram. Her technique and craftsmanship is outstanding! Her style is one of a kind!
One little extra thing I love to do is throw something into the mix that doesn't exactly match, but will beautifully complement and stand out in these spaces! For the outdoor space, I threw in the that graphic cacti wall hanging - it works because of the contrasting colors and modern vibe. In the bedroom, it's that rad, woven rug turned wall hanging due to its colors and vintage vibe.
I hope y'all get out there and share some texture love! As always, I'd love to see how you style your spaces - please connect with me on Instagram and Facebook!
